The attached photos show my process of painting the marble, Georgian inspired, floor for the production of Lady Windermere's Fan for Pittsburgh Irish & Classical. I was the Scenic Charge for this production and the floor was my first project for the set. I began by laying in the "background" marble, segmented by each rectangle of Masonite. The marble grain was created by first laying down my grain color on top of my base, a water spray, shifting the grain in desired movement with brushes and foam rollers, and lastly adding spatters followed by another spray of water to soften the edges. Although the same process was repeated, each slab achieved its own organic look. The borders pictured, were achieved through a more controlled process of sponge work, layers of tinted glazes, and vein lines drawn in with a feather. The inner geometric border was created with a stencil first drawn in my charcoal, then followed with brushwork, and a final sponging of a tinted glaze. The central emblem was first pounced with a plot and charcoal, lined with a diluted Velour Black, and each section sponged in with tinted glazes. Once each individual section was completed, the entire floor received coats of semi gloss sealer tinted in shades of off-white.
