I had a fun time with this as it was my first time with enlarging a scenic paint elevation to full size. I recently completed my first realized set design with the production, Almost Maine. My focal point that tied together the scenes was the use of a ground row that was inspired by a fish-eye view of the northern lights. I wanted to create a scenic element that would sweep the focus up to the stars and the northern lights in the transitions. I started with creating my painter's elevation in 3/8" scale. From there I separated my tree-line ground row into 4X8 sheets to be applied to the Luan panels. The Vectorworks file was imported into the CNC cutter machine which cut the pieces. We then assembled and framed the pieces to create the ground row. From there, I used the OffBroadway paint line to paint the black (this production took place in a black box space with a budget of $100.00). I then mixed white with black to create the tree highlights with the source of the light coming from the starry sky and the northern lights. I created my ultra highlight, medium highlights and punctuated some white mixed with black and phthalo green to create a subtle minty highlight. After the suggested trees cape was painted, I oversprayed it with a watered down black to blend it upwards.
