Damn Yankees at the John E. Baggett Auditorium. The second community theatre production I've designed there, with a smattering of ETC Palettas and Vivid-Rs that make my life so much easier! All photos taken from my iPhone from the spot booth.

West Side Story, Somewhere. This is the Climax of the Show. I used R22 backlight, R59 Front Light, and a R58 and R382 CYC. There is also a hint of R370 and R39 Toplight, and some R339 Pipe End. Finally, I topped it off with a touch of R51 toplight, maybe at 50%. I used the R51 almost as a Neutral density gel,to keep the intensity low, but the color Temperature of an Open White Instrument. All of the Ellipsoidals got R119. I also used the R77545 Les Mis Grill Gobo 8 as a backlight gobo.

For all the "Ballad of Sweeney Todd" numbers, including the opening and closing, I used striplights gelled with R-99 to uplight the actors. This was done to create an eerie mood and help convey the words of the songs. R-99 is warm, but it's warm in an almost unsettling way. This effect combined with the surrounding icy and deep blues created a powerful mood. R-99 is my new favorite color.

This scene between the two main characters takes place at night in their garden bath. With specials to illuminate the bath area, and practicals as decor, the majority of the scene is set by the moonlight through the trees, created using R367 and 78222 gobos.

we use rosco gels for every show. In the first one it is a show titled "movie game" a lot of the scenes took place inside and we wanted a warm tone to it.

The second one is Alice in Wonderland. we really wanted vibrant colors of the set pieces to stand out and feel very psychedelic, almost.

for the third picture, that is also Alice in Wonderland, this was the main, center set piece a that the actors would climb on.

And we use rosco cyc gels for every performance

The Show is based on the movie/novel They Shoot Horse don't They? Were the characters participate in a Marathon Dance Competition. Picture 1, The beginning of the dance competition were lighting is soft, saturated and theatrical. Picture 2, The dance competition progresses and colors begin to dissolve into a stale desaturated look. The goal is to show a long passage of time that creates the feeling of gels burning out and reinforcing the despair of the characters.
